On 20 December, bottle factory owner Nathaniel Seers underwent a sudden change of personality. He sacked an employee who had suffered an injury at the factory instead of showing his usual compassion and philanthropy. While in Yorkshire, the Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald entered the community of Sweetville to investigate what the "crimson horror" was but were trapped after being subject to the red leech's poison. Jenny Flint rescued them. Jenny and Madame Vastra removed the poison from a rocket, preventing Mrs Winifred Gillyflower and Mr Sweet's plans to destroy humanity. Strax killed Mrs Gillyflower to save the lives of the Doctor and his friends, and Mrs Gillyflower's daughter, Ada, crushed Mr Sweet. (TV: The Crimson Horror)

The Whisper Men came to Clarence DeMarco in prison, and told him the secret of the Doctor. (HOMEVID: Clarence and the Whispermen)

Vastra and Jenny invited Strax, Clara and River Song to a conference call. However, Jenny was killed by the Whisper Men and the group was sent to Trenzalore. (TV: The Name of the Doctor)
