• 09 - Coronation Street debuts on TV on Earth. Several cast members of this long-running series are destined to be killed by the Vore (EDA: The Gallifrey Chronicles) and the Doctor once had a strange dream involving the series (ST: Christmas Special).

• 09 - Coronation Street debuts on UK television. Still in production in 2009, it becomes the longest-running UK drama TV series of all time, and one of the only shows to surpass Doctor Who in longevity. Many Doctor Who cast members (before and after their involvement in Who) will appear on the series over the decades, and the series' popularity in the ratings is considered a contributing factor in the cancellation of Doctor Who in 1989, after it had been scheduled against the still-popular programme.
