1992 was a year in which a number of events important to the production of Doctor Who and its spin-offs occurred.

  • 24 September - The Sci-Fi Channel, an American cable network devoted to broadcasting science fiction programming, launched. It became the American home network for the revived Doctor Who during its first four seasons.
  • Unknown - To mark Doctor Who's thirtieth anniversary in 1993, the BBC announced plans for a made-for-video movie entitled The Dark Dimension which would have featured all surviving Doctor actors, most notably Tom Baker. Production was ultimately cancelled and the shorter tribute, NOTVALID: Dimensions in Time, was commissioned instead.
