- Decalog First Published. Discounting the Annuals, this is the first professionally published and licenced Doctor Who short story collection. It will be followed by four more volumes (of decreasing relevance to Doctor Who) over the next 3 years and later be succeeded by the Short Trips series of books.
- Tragedy Day First Published.
- Target Books republishes Doctor Who and the Talons of Weng-Chiang with new cover art and a slightly revised title (now Doctor Who - The Talons of Weng-Chiang). This was the last reissue of this nature by Target, ending a program it began in 1990.

- Doctor Who - The Paradise of Death First Published. This was the 156th and final release of a novelisation under the Target Books banner and the last of three "deluxe format" novelisations. This brings to a close a series of books dating back nearly 21 years. Target's owner, Virgin, would publish two more novelisations based upon a radio play and an independent film production under the Virgin Missing Adventures banner, and an additional novelisation of an independent film under the Virgin New Adventures banner.

- 16 - Eileen Way, who portrayed the Old Mother in "An Unearthly Child" and Karela in "The Creature from the Pit," dies in Canterbury, England.

- Blood Harvest First Published
- Goth Opera First Published, launching the Virgin Missing Adventures book line, a spin-off of the New Adventures line focusing on the first six Doctors. On several coccasions MA and NA books would be linked, as was the case with Blood Harvest (featuring the Seventh Doctor) and Goth Opera (featuring the Fourth Doctor).
- After a year's hiatus, Titan Books revives its Doctor Who: The Scripts series once more by publishing the teleplay for Galaxy 4.

- 11 - Peter Cushing dies from prostate cancer in Canterbury, England.
- 26 - Tariq Yunus, who played Cass in The Robots of Death dies in Bombay, India.

- The final release by Titan Books under its Doctor Who: The Scripts line, the scripts for The Crusade, is published. Although Titan plans to publish at least two more script books, the line, which started in 1988, is discontinued after this release. The next publication of TV scripts would not occur until a decade later when BBC Books would publish collections of scripts featuring the Fourth Doctor and Ninth Doctor.
- 20 - John Lucarotti, who wrote Marco Polo, The Aztecs and The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve, dies.

- 06 - This date marks the 5th anniversary of the broadcast of Survival Episode 3, the final episode of the 1963-89 series. Fan hopes remain high that a new series or a movie may eventually be commissioned.

- Stephen Dartnell, who played Yartek in The Keys of Marinus and John in The Sensorites, dies.
- Silva Screen Records releases the soundtrack compilation The Worlds of Doctor Who, which includes a newly recorded performance of the Doctor Who theme performed by Sylvester McCoy on the spoons!
