A Charitable Earth was a charity founded by Dorothy McShane, who was a former companion of the Doctor. It was founded to help orphans and underprivileged children, just as the Doctor had helped Ace when they first met. (AUDIO: In Remembrance)
The headquarters of A Charitable Earth were located in London, opposite to the Tower of London. (WC: The Promise) Ace chose the location, despite immediate and vociferous opposition to its construction, as it provided a clear view down onto the private roadway which led to UNIT headquarters, nestled within the Tower. She lived in a penthouse on the 18th floor.
Although most of what she did was charitable, Ace sometimes used the charity as a cover for her own ideas, salvaging the Squidget whilst Sanaul, her business manager, claimed that they were using the lake near Wasdale Head for testing 'a new generation of inflatable boats and specialised diving equipment'. Although this was the case, Ace also received the Hypergreen from a startup which she had funded in Malaysia. (PROSE: At Childhood's End)

In 2022, Dorothy McShane led her team into a foreign dictatorship with the hopes of providing much needed resources to the children of the country. However, she found herself placed in lockdown in a hotel next door to St John Colchester of Torchwood. Despite their early frosty relationship, the two of them uncovered a plot by the Unity to brainwash the people in the hotel to assassinate the president and allow the Unity to take control of the country with a clone army. This plan was thwarted and, unsure of their clone statuses, McShane and Colchester parted ways with a new understanding of each other's lives and work. (AUDIO: The Red List)
