Abu was a Gond who lived under the enslaving regime of the Krotons. Along with Vana, he was selected as a "high mind" to give his mental energy to the Kroton spaceship. Thereafter, he died, as most "high minds" generally did. His death was witnessed by the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe. It was the first evidence of the true intent of the Krotons and was the last known death caused by the Krotons in Gond history. The Doctor's announcement of Abu's death to the Gond populace proved to be the spark which lit the flame of revolution on the Gond homeworld.
