Alan Wareing (born 9 March 1958[1]) directed three Seventh Doctor Doctor Who television stories: The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, Ghost Light and Survival. Having directed both the last-aired and last-produced stories of the classic series, he has an unassailable claim to being "the last director of the original run of Doctor Who".

Prior to his involvement with Who, he had started out as an assistant floor manager within the BBC. Following this, he became a production assistant within the corporation and was the production assistant for the penultimate Fourth Doctor story, The Keeper of Traken. While training to be a director, he was the production manager on Timelash.

Career[]

Outside of Doctor Who, he worked on the soap operas Emmerdale and Coronation Street.
