Mr Armitage was the headteacher at Coal Hill Academy in the 2010s. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die) He introduced Clara Oswald to Danny Pink. (TV: Into the Dalek)

During a meeting, he introduced the staff to the school's new temporary caretaker, "John Smith," who was actually the Twelfth Doctor working undercover. He was present at parents' evening, and told Mr Woods and Mrs Woods that Clara should be back in a few minutes, after she had run off with Danny. (TV: The Caretaker)

Shortly after Danny Pink's death, he informed the students and staff of the school about the death and also mentioned how their sympathy must also be expressed to Clara, who many knew had a relationship with the late maths teacher. (TV: Dark Water)

In 2016[1], he put April McClain in charge of decorating the gymnasium for the Prom. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die) While attempting to protect his students, he was skinned alive and subsequently killed by a skin-peeling dragon. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo)
