Barbara Smith (née Wilson), the mother of Sarah Jane Smith died on the day of the Foxgrove village fete on the 18th August 1951 when Sarah Jane was 3 months old. She and her husband Eddie Smith drove off in their car leaving their baby behind in the pram.
