When talking to Joan Redfern's WI group, archaeologist Alexander Shuttleworth claimed that professional reputations in British archaeology hinged upon the examination and proper interpretation of bronze age burials. Of particular debate about the period was the question of whether the bronze age society under examination was matriarchal or not. (PROSE: Prelude Human Nature)
