[edit] Publisher's Summary

'The universe is dead! Time and space, murdered! Stars and moons, planets, comets, put to the sword! Physics and chemistry, mathematics, geography, sent to the stake! Mother and father, friend and stranger, snug bound in entropy's coffin! Love, dead! fear, dead! Dogs and birds and cats and ants and books and pies and cars and lies, all dead and gone to less than dreams these long ten years! Everyone that ever lived, every thought that ever held meaning, every flower that ever cupped dew and every equation that ever brushed a portrait of truth—'

Somewhere inside Ian's mind a page turned.

'All that we have is in here—' he stamped the ground with a child's foot, '—now—' he waved with a child's windmill arm at the universe the Ship had built for us to live out our lives in.

'There's nothing else worth remembering anymore.'

Featuring the First Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan, this adventure takes place between the television stories The Reign of Terror and Planet of Giants.

[edit] During the 'Game of Me'

  • Barbara dies of radiation poisoning on Skaro.
  • Barbara (now not dead) fails to remember the Daleks.
  • Susan and Alexander the Great sleep together and have a son, Philip.

[edit] Notes

  • This book was scheduled as a BBC Past Doctor Adventures but was cancelled by BBC Books due to contractual reasons.
  • It was published independently as a fanzine by the author to the benefits of the Bristol Area Down Syndrome Association. According to Howe's Transcendental Toybox, the book is dated May 2000, but copies did not begin circulating until October 2000, according to the author, though Howe suggests the book may not have actually been available until as late as January 2001.
  • According to REF: I, Who 2, "...from what we can piece together - (Jim) Mortimore submitted a completed Campaign draft that barely, if at all, matched his approved proposal. The BBC, unwilling to accept a book it essentially didn't commission, pulled Campaign from its release schedule.".
  • In 2001 the BBC cited Jim Mortimore with a cease and desist order on the book.
  • During the 'Game of Me' companions such as Lola, Sue, Bridget and Mandy all are names proposed or that appeared in very early edits of An Unearthly Child or the first novelisation.
  • Part of the book is narrated in first person by Ian Chesterton in the same style as Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks, and Susan is referred to as "Susan English", the name given to her in that early novelisation in lieu of her television name, Susan Foreman.

[edit] Continuity

  • Several timelines are seen. One of them references the unmade television story The Masters of Luxor, which, if produced, would have aired in place of The Daleks.
