Castrovalva

Castrovalva.
For the TV story, see Castrovalva (TV story).

Castrovalva, also called the Dwellings of Simplicity, was a town located on a lush planet in Andromeda, possibly also called "Castrovalva". When the Doctor needed a place to recover from the effects of his recent regeneration, Nyssa and Tegan brought him to Castrovalva.

Castrovalva seemed to have an extensive history, its library holding books of information from 1200 years ago to the present day. The Castrovalan people did very little except read, but encouraged new ideas, as they began hunting for sport at the time of the Doctor's arrival.

In the end, it was revealed that the Master had actually created Castrovalva, using Adric to calculate the Block Transfer Computations, and all of its people and history were made-up. Having failed to destroy the Doctor by sending him through time to Event One, Castrovalva served as a second, recursive trap to destroy the Doctor. He and his companions escaped just as Castrovalva fell in on itself. (DW: Castrovalva) The Master escaped as well. (DW: Time-Flight)
