- Reversible DVD sleeves enabled the collector to display one of two designs featuring either the Doctor and his enemies or his companions.

- The Doctor returns to Gallifrey for the first time in centuries and finds the planet in the grips of dark conspiracies. The President of the High Council of the Time Lords is about to name his successor when he is assassinated by a shadowy figure. All evidence points to the Doctor, who is arrested and sentenced to death. But the Doctor knows who is really behind the murder and sets out to prove his innocence by running for President! Can the skeleton creature lurking in the catacombs really be the Master? What is the Matrix? Is the Doctor's TARDIS really an antique? And is it the end of Gallifrey and the Time Lords?

- The character Luke Rattigan was originally called Luke Marlow — after a young fan known to writer Helen Raynor.
- At the time of playing Polly, Anneke Wills was married to Michael Gough, who had played the Celestial Toymaker.
- The Doctor grew up in a house "halfway up a mountain" somewhere in South Gallifrey.
- Yellow Fever and How to Cure It would have been an Auton story by creator/writer Robert Holmes, had the 1986 series not been reduced in length and budget.
- The Autons also appeared in an early draft script of The Five Doctors, where it would have battled Sarah Jane Smith and the Third Doctor.
- Cybermats were used to infect humans at an Arctic research base in 2010. Those bitten were turned into Cyberslaves, whose job was to revive a Cybermen lying dormant in a crashed ship. (The above is a reference to the recent 2010 Doctor Who Adventure Game.)
- Subscribers received two additional file dividers with this issue, namely Who on Earth and Alien Worlds, to help organise the new sections added to the magazine collection.
