Deafness was the condition of lacking audio perception due to physiological or psychological factors. There were varying degrees of deafness, ranging from minor audio impairment to total loss of hearing.

Dot Smith-Smith, a colonist of Yemaya 4 in the 23rd century, was born deaf. Her parents refused to have her either healed medically or fitted with a hearing aid. (PROSE: SLEEPY)
Deafness in other species[]
The Masters of Dorada lost the organs for sight and hearing when they became disembodied brains, but could still sense others' thoughts. (PROSE: The Dream Masters)
The Kantrofarri were both blind and deaf. (TV: Last Christmas)
