Earthquake

Earthquakes were natural disasters on Earth and other planets.

In 2006, Blon Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen's failed plot to destroy Earth with the Cardiff Rift caused an earthquake in Cardiff. (TV: Boom Town) While not caused by the Earth's plates, Martha Jones later recalled this incident as an earthquake. (TV: Utopia)

In 2009, Gareth invented a system for accurately predicting earthquakes. (TV: Doctor Who)

At some point in the 2000s,[nb 1] the Earth's relocation to the Medusa Cascade created an earthquake-like shock worldwide. (TV: The Stolen Earth) Its subsequent return to its proper place in space and time by the Doctor's TARDIS had a similar effect. (TV: Journey's End)

On other planets[]

On Skaro, the Fourth Doctor's TARDIS detected a high degree of seismic activity, but this was acutally the Daleks' drilling operations, not actual earthquakes. (TV: Destiny of the Daleks)

Krop Tor was known to be affected by earthquakes. In the 42nd century, one such earthquake caused the Tenth Doctor's TARDIS to fall into a deep chasm. (TV: The Impossible Planet)

A quake shook the ground around the Sacred Temple on Trion. The Mobile Castle, ironically, did not move. (PROSE: Turlough and the Earthlink Dilemma)

When the Dalek Empire began colonising Alvega, the Controller created a quake that destroyed the Dalek city and three of the invading Dalek flying saucers. (COMIC: The Amaryll Challenge)

Related technology[]

The Doctor's TARDIS had a seismic scanner to detect earthquakes, including on the volcanic planet Sarn. (TV: Planet of Fire)

Footnotes[]

  1. The present day of Doctor Who's fourth series is not consistently dated, with TV: The Fires of Pompeii, TV: The Waters of Mars, and AUDIO: SOS setting the present of the 13 regular episodes in 2008, and PROSE: Beautiful Chaos setting them in about April to June 2009.
