They realised that the performance was being used by beings from a a reflection of Edinburgh in a pocket dimension to get into the real Edinburgh. The Doctor and Josie journeyed into the mirror Edinburgh, rescued all the prisoners kept there by the mirror people, and then severed the link between the mirror dimension and the real Edinburgh.
