Fanzines, short for fan magazines, are nonprofessional, unofficial periodical publications created by fans of a particular cultural phenomenon (music, sport, media, etc) for fellow fans of that subject.
Numerous Doctor Who fanzines have been published since the 1970s, with many of their publishers, editors, and contributors subsequently going on to have professional careers in either periodical publishing or the wider media. In some cases this was via publication in Doctor Who Magazine.
