Inspector Gascoigne was a police detective investigating Chameleon Tours in 1966.

Biography[]

Gascoigne was acting on behalf of Samantha Briggs, whose brother Brian had disappeared on a Chameleon Tours holiday to Rome.

When Gascoigne found an envelope containing postcards in the Chameleon Tours hangar, the Chameleon Spencer shot and killed him with an energy weapon for having gotten too close to the truth. The effect of the Chameleon weapon made it appear Gascoigne had been electrocuted.

Polly witnessed the murder while hiding from the airport police in the hangar, and told the Second Doctor. The Doctor's subsequent investigation exposed the Chameleon threat. (TV: The Faceless Ones)

Behind the scenes[]

  • Gascoigne has never been identified with a first name, either in The Faceless Ones or any spin-off media.
  • When The Faceless Ones was transmitted by the ABC in Australia in December 1967, the killing of Gascoigne in episode one was edited out by the Australian censors as being unsuitable for family viewing.
