M. Sillington was a human painter who wore a large feathered hat to breakfast.
When the Tenth Doctor met her, she was 74 years old and living in Number 1, Gallows Gate Road. The Doctor recognised her painting style from a portrait that later hung in the National Portrait Gallery and suspected that she was the same M. Sillington who would paint a picture of T.S. Eliot in 1940. At the time he met her, she had last painted the tree in the yard, seven years ago, in 1933, shortly after she'd moved there.
She had lived two streets away from the house when she was younger, and had heard strange rumours about a curse on it. (PROSE: Number 1, Gallows Gate Road)
