The White House, located in Washington DC, was the residence of the President of the United States and a seat of the American government.

History[]

19th century[]

In August 1814, the White House was burned in the British attack on Washington DC. (AUDIO: Washington Burns)

The renegade Time Lady Iris Wildthyme once shared breakfast with President Abraham Lincoln on the White House lawn in the 1860s, after saving the United States from "Martian invaders" for the third time. She told George Strangeways that they had "such a laugh". (AUDIO: The Panda Invasion)

20th century[]

In 1951, the Eighth Doctor visited the White House whilst investigating the Players' influence over Harry S. Truman. (PROSE: Endgame)

In July 1966, the White House was among the computer systems which were to be connected to WOTAN on C-Day on 16 July, an event which was ultimately cancelled following WOTAN's failed attempt to take over London. (TV: The War Machines)

In 1969, the Eleventh Doctor landed his TARDIS in the Oval Office of the White House, where he met President Richard Nixon. (TV: The Impossible Astronaut)

21st century[]

On Christmas Day 2009, President Barack Obama was giving a speech from a press briefing room at the White House when, like everyone else on the planet, he was converted into a copy of the Saxon Master. (TV: The End of Time)

Shortly after Miracle Day in 2011, Oswald Danes, speaking on television, observed that the White House had said nothing. In a later broadcast, George Sayer asked Candice Perlmutter what was the latest from the White House. She replied that a number of high level officials were considering a possible alien influence. (TV: Dead of Night)

Citing the White House's silence, Ellis Hartley Monroe asked who was there to speak for the living. At that time, the White House was preparing a Miracle Rally in Los Angeles. After Oswald Danes spoke publicly, one reporter suggested that he have become the "voice of the people" as the White House remained silent. (TV: Escape to LA)

Months later, word from the White House was that all immigration would stop. (TV: The Gathering)

Alternate timeline[]
