The Métropolitain or Metro was an underground railway that serviced at least Paris, France. The Fourth Doctor and Romana II used it when they visited the city in 1979. Stations at this time included Nation, Charles de Gaulle–Étoile, and Trocadéro. (TV: City of Death [+]David Agnew, Doctor Who season 17 (BBC1, 1979).)

During a series of journeys on the Paris Metro, The Doctor and Romana found that several of the stations, such as "Marcadet-Poissonniers", "Tuileries" and "Trocadéro", had names which the TARDIS refused to translate because they were "so much fun". (PROSE: City 0f Death)

Behind the scenes[]

Though not identified in dialogues, clear signage for the Metropolitan can be seen at several points in the location filming for episode 1.
