Qin Shi Huang

Qin Shi Huang was the first emperor of the Qin dynasty in China in the 3rd century BC. (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger, COMIC: The Immortal Emperor, AUDIO: The Emperor of Eternity)

Biography[]

Life[]

According to one account, Qin Shi Huang rescued an alien from the wreckage of a "star chariot" when he was a boy. He came to know the alien as his first general and most trusted advisor, Meng Tian. Using Meng's knowledge, Qin Shi Huang united the Warring States, making him the First Emperor. Following a failed assassination attempt, Qin Shi Huang had Meng build him a new, indestructible body, making him a cyborg. He also sought immortality. (COMIC: The Immortal Emperor)

Meng, seeking to take control of Earth, later remotely activated the Terracotta Army, and switched off Qin Shi Huang in his throne room, describing him as a puppet who had outlived his usefulness. Donna Noble used her mobile phone to interrupt the signal paralysing the Emperor, waking him up again. While Qin Shi Huang and Meng were fighting each other, Meng shot at the warp converter, which shut down the Emperor and the Army, while also burying the whole palace in an explosion. (COMIC: The Immortal Emperor)

According to another account, he was promised by what he thought was a Japanese wizard that he would become immortal if he followed a certain set of instructions. These included the construction of a tomb near Xi'an, wherein the emperor, his generals, and eight thousand others would take up their positions in the tomb on the seventh full moon of the year. During a conjunction between Earth and a distant area of space, the minds of the emperor, his generals, and the eight thousand were copied by the Mandragora helix. The terracotta army was created to house the copies of these minds when they were activated centuries later. (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger)

Death[]

The Tenth Doctor noted that no one knew how Qin Shi Huang died. (COMIC: The Immortal Emperor) The First Doctor believed that Huang died from obesity and heavy metal poisoning from eating powdered jade, mercury, and gold dust intended to make him live longer. (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger)

Upon his death, he was placed in him tomb along with his eight thousand soldiers and his two generals, Zhao and Gao. (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger) According to one Chinese myth, the 10,000 members of the court of the First Emperor, Chin, were buried alive in his tomb. (PROSE: Warring States) At some point, all of those in the tomb had their minds copied by the Mandragora Helix. (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger)

Resurrection[]

Having failed an invasion of Earth in the 15th century, (TV: The Masque of Mandragora) the Mandragora Helix activated Qin Shi Huang in 1863 by implanting his mind in that of Abbot Wu. The Helix made Qin think he had been resurrected and manipulated him into conquering certain important sites for the Helix's plan. By 1865, he had reached the city of Guangzhou at the same time the First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright and Vicki Pallister were visiting. He took over the Black Flag militia, killing its leader Lei-Fang. When the plan was ready for execution on the seventh full moon of the year, Qin travelled to Xi'an using a portal created by the Helix. The Helix's plan was stopped when the First Doctor and Barbara convinced Qin that he was possessed by the Helix, causing both of them to be released from the body of Abbot Wu. (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger)

Within the City of the Saved, Ch'in was annoyed to not have been accompanied into the afterlife by his Terracotta Army. (PROSE: The Night is Long, and Dreams Are Legion)

Legacy[]

According to the First Doctor, Qin Shi Huang's dynasty died with his son. (PROSE: The Eleventh Tiger)

In 1289, Marco Polo told Barbara Wright that Emperor Qin Shi Huang had started the tradition of protecting the ruler of China with imitation soldiers, having had 6000 made to protect his tomb. At this time, no one knew where his tomb was located, however the First Doctor slyly suggested they dig around Xian, where the capital had been. (PROSE: Marco Polo)

The Tenth Doctor said that archaeologists were due to excavate both the Emperor and his tomb around the early 21st century. (COMIC: The Immortal Emperor)
