A Rutan spy was hunted by the Sontarans on a solar yacht named the Tiger Moth.
Biography[]
The Rutan Spy was on the run from the Sontarans, as it was carrying vital information on the conclusion of the Rutan-Sontaran War, and stowed away on the solar yacht Tiger Moth, captained by Lisa Deranne, while it was taking on supplies at Space Station Alpha to Space Station Beta. When a Sontaran boarding party from the War-Wheel, led by Commander Steg, took the Tiger Moth to find the Rutan, it killed the ship's chief engineer, Robar, and took on his form to ambush a few Sontaran troopers as it searched for a way off of the Tiger Moth.
When Lieutenant Vorn foiled its attempt to steal the Sontaran Boarding Craft, the Rutan was shot and quickly fled. As the Sontarans began a more thorough and complete search of the Tiger Moth, the Rutan killed passengers Mari and Zorelle, before being briefly encountered in Rober's form by both Lisa and Kurt. The Rutan attempted to trick Lisa, but Kurt immediately ordered her to kill him, as he knew that that was not the real Robar. The Rutan then quickly fled.
Later, when Steg was defeated by Lisa and Kurt was injured, the Rutan showed up in the form of Zorelle and asked Lisa if Steg was dead, to which she told the Rutan that all of the Sontarans and most of her crew were all dead. The Rutan decided to spare Lisa and Kurt due to them sharing a common enemy in the Sontarans, before declaring that it would go in the Sontaran Boarding Craft, revealing it's true form to both Lisa and Kurt. Steg suddenly regain consciousness as the Rutan boarded the Sontaran ship and urgently warned Lisa of the Destructo Bomb he had left in the airlock tunnel. Lisa quickly threw it into the Sontaran Boarding Craft the Rutan was trying to escape in, and Steg held the closing airlock doors open long enough to save Lisa's life before he finally died. Not long after Steg's death, the Sontaran Boarding Craft had managed to get far enough away from the Tiger Moth before instantly exploding at a safe distance away, successfully killing the Rutan Spy. Psychological profile[]
Like most Rutans, the Rutan Spy was a ruthless, emotionless, xenophobic, uncaring, and sadistic, yet an efficient brutal killer who simply did not care about the lives it took, innocent or otherwise, as it too saw other species, such as humans, as nothing more than inferior primitive bipeds. When the Rutan directly confronted Lisa after she and Kurt had defeated Commander Steg, the Rutan at first wanted to kill both her and Kurt, but decided to spare their lives since both of their species shared a common enemy in the Sontarans, before attempting to escape. Behind the scenes[]
- It remains unknown if the Rutan spy is the same Rutan as Karne, who appeared in the novelisation of Shakedown: Return of the Sontarans.
