Although Grandma Connolly is named such on her action figure and other out-of-universe materials, the entries for her and Eddie Connolly imply that she was Eddie's mother-in-law and Rita Connolly's mother. If that were the case, surely she'd have Rita's maiden name for a surname rather than Connolly. Was Grandma ever canonically identified as Rita's mother and/or a Connolly in The Idiot's Lantern? She was her mother, this is referenced a few times but the one that springs to mind is near the end when she says the house is in her mothers name. I have no idea about the Connolly thing though.Skittles the hog 21:32, November 18, 2010 (UTC)
- I've added a note at the bottom of the article which now clarifies all this a bit more. She wasn't referred to as a Connolly in narrative, but she was in end credits. In a case where the narrative gives us no name, the end credits automatically become the primary source of the name of the character. That's what we have to go with, especially as production team confirmed their commitment to the name by allowing an action figure to go out under the name. Thus if the production team are right — and we should assume they are — the logical conclusion is that Rita was a Connolly before marriage. That's hardly remarkable, given the commonplace surname. I mean if Eleanor Roosevelt can marry another uncommonly-named Roosevelt, then surely one Connolly can find another to marry.
