Hi, just been looking through the reposting of 'lets get organised' (well that did seem to be the idea I know!) however...it strikes me, having now seen it appear several times, and even my visits are sporodic, that while it makes some valid points.. it does all of us involved in this wiki a great disservice!
Its two years old! A lot of people have made a lot of effort in the past year that I'm aware of. to add content and tidy up its presentation. I don't think we are THAT disorganised, we are all just working on a HUGE project! Each with our own areas of interest (which incidently aren't necessarily those to which we may contribute the most!) Of course its not going to be perfect (yet!! its evolving daily) but with every page of content added it IS getting better no doubts about that) The basics are there and the new wiki format I find particularly helpful and easier to use. Something I think we need is to be using the forum more constructive as a community (in the sence of working together).
From my own experience I find the forum a bit too serious, unfriendly in the sense of a community feel, my experience is limited I admit, but I feel its lacking something .. maybe participation?! Where's the chatty bit?! "Just seen/read/heard 'whatever' and thought how 'whatever' it was, what did you think?" I'm sure it wouldn't be all praise! I realise this isn't a chat room but would it engage participation, (and thereby a sense of community)
I always seem to be bothering User:Tangerineduel with questions, and help requests, or it sometimes feels like that, when I know that perhaps the questions/issues could be raised in a forum! I dont know why, maybe its because he/she has been (extremely) helpful and supportive but we haven't always agreed, and sometimes other feedback/input would be welcome. The point is I suppose that I KNOW (one year on) what he/she can probably help with.. but not really anyone else!
How do 'we' as a community get to know each others strengths and interests? Any ideas?
Quite often I feel that I am working alone on 'older or specific material' which is fine by me, I usually pick an area that is not developed on the site (or non-existant), go off and research, collate the information I want to submit, prep it, then post it, revisiting the pages to tweak and tidy. Thats why I often appears to have periods of inactivity, I browse frequently to see what others are doing in the meantime!
How do others work? Do they tidy up pages as they do random searches or look through new pages? Do others pick a topic and work through it? I really don't know but would be interested to know! Is there somebody specifically working or looking at dates for examples, or audio releases, or Torchwood coverage! (incidently since Journey's End, have The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood become more integrated in the TARDIS wiki than justifying their own wikis?!
So there you have it, my thoughts late at night, lets see if this opens up a few replies. I think we all deserve a pat on the back, and do you know what I actually rather like the recent wiki changes, especially the widgets - go on try them!! After all, one thing that would seem to unite us all is our enthusiasm for the Doctors adventures, and how great it would be if we could find a way of expressing that enthusiasm in a constructive way that enhances this site and widens its contributers base!

Although i edit all over i like to focus on Audio stories and for a time i agree it felt like it was just me working away until recently when myself and fellow member Colleyd started to cordinate or edits through a project page which gives me a sense of acheviement when we check something of the list.
As for comunity spirit i have to say coming from the Star wars wiki that it isn't as strong as it could be which has its ups and downs while you don't have the strong personalities how like to have a say in everything it also seems that we are missing out on the real experiance of a wiki yes we are creating the most detailed doctor who site in the world!!! but we also need to have a strong comunity to enhance the experiance, co-ordinate edits and genurally make it more fun as i have found after the foundation of the audio project page (which anyone is welcome to join / use)
yes its only two people but if more people get involved and start their own, become more active on talk pages, user and otherwise and at the forums i am sure that we can have a bigger more enthused comunity than any other wiki.
Well my thoughts have been expressed or rather blurted out in a big mess which i feel is just a little bit more than my 2 cents :) and i am sure that the comunity will expand (If the development of the wiki over the time i have been here is anything to go by) Dark Lord Xander 02:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello! (Thought I'd start with a greeting, and that I am a he, just to clear that one up). I do seem to field a lot of questions (but I'm always ready to help). I agree, we could have a bit more of a community spirit. A lot of the time users go off an do their thing as there just hasn't been a lot of people on this wiki all the time, so talk pages and the forum just didn't get used as much as it could have been. But hopefully if those of us who are active members get more involved others will follow...
As to how I edit, generally a mix, I do get obessed on things (such as the uncatagorised images, I'm slowly adding copyright tags which have categories attached, I still have a few more templates to create for that project). I've also been going through the EDAs (again, the first time right through I created all of them more or less) and adding more details to the characters, references, continuity etc. I'm also working on the TV stories adding the new Template:Infobox ClassicTV infobox, doing basic clear ups of the pages, adding ratings, rearranging and making the links uniform, adding links to the novelisations (all nicely created by The Librarian I have to say).
I also daily check the uncatagorised pages page and try to add categories to many of the pages that end up being listed in there. Additionally I occasionally work on the Orphaned pages (pages that have nothing linking to them) which range from being easy to not so easy to fix the opposite number to this is the Dead end pages, which is also an occasional stopping in place for me.
Additionally I usually check through for new users and add Welcome tags, something Dark Lord Xander has taken up also (Thank you!), I also usually do a check through of the recent changes for any major changes to the pages, and also through the new pages log. I also (when a series is broadcasting) check through the new files pages for double uploads of pages and various things like that, that's slowed down quite a bit now.
I think that's all I get up to...actually I also occasionally go through the Wanted pages list and see if any article takes my fancy, and there's also the Special pages page which I usually go through various parts of that, the Long pages, short pages, most linked to and other pages I've mentioned checking / editing things. --Tangerineduel 15:23, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I update articles on whatever interests me after seeing the episode/reading the book. Since I very rarely get a new book and the new episodes are always late, it always means that my updates are sporadic at best. I also clean up pages that other people make, provided I can remember it well enough or I can guess the real meaning.
I think the problem with relying on the community to decide on things is that in every instance, new people will come along and not notice them. I mean, it was decided to discuss the featured article in the talk page before putting it up, but then people keep on coming along and changing it. It was decided to just fuse the novelization pages into the episode pages, but then the novelizations got their own article. I mean, it's unlikely that people will look over the forums or read the talk pages before they actually making changes. For that matter, it seems like they don't even look at the rest of the wiki before they start making pages in the wrong style. -<Azes13 17:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)>-
