Sir Francis Dashwood was Chancellor of the Exchequer during the reign of King George III in the late 18th century. The Eighth Doctor described him as "a cultured, amiable, scholarly man." Sir Francis was the head of the Hellfire Club, in which he and his friends sometimes spent weekends at Medmenham drinking. His political enemies claimed that he worshipped Satan and practiced human sacrifice. (AUDIO: Minuet in Hell) He died in 1781. (AUDIO: Jago & Son)

Sir Francis had a descendant in the 21st century, Brigham Elisha Dashwood III, who revered his ancestor and was also the head of the Hellfire Club. (AUDIO: Minuet in Hell)
