Fuji was a Japanese soldier from a timeline in which World War II was still being fought in 1963. His home was in Okinawa where he was a fisherman and his boat was called "Flush of Dawn." In July of that year, he took the Fifth Doctor prisoner until an American fighter attacked the area. Afterwards, the Doctor tried to treat his wounds and removed the bullets from the Japanese soldier's gun for his own safety. After the Doctor left, he was killed by one of the opposition soldiers "not understanding why". (COMIC: Lunar Lagoon) His death provoked some initial friction between the Doctor and Gus Goodman, until the soldier confirmed that he'd killed no one since conscription. The Doctor's decision to disarm Fuji, essentially setting up the unlikely soldier to die, personally shamed the Time Lord after the fact. (COMIC: 4-Dimensional Vistas)
