Ginger beer

Ginger beer, (PROSE: It's Raining Gin [+]Jon Arnold, The Curse of Fanfic! (The Curse of Fanfic!, Obverse Books, 2020). Page 137.)[additional sources needed] also known as ginger pop,[source needed] was a favourite drink of the fourth, fifth and eighth incarnations of the Doctor. (TV: The Android Invasion, AUDIO: The Eternal Summer, PROSE: Rip Tide)

History[]

On 8 December 1926, the Tenth Doctor used ginger beer as an ingredient of an antidote for cyanide. (TV: The Unicorn and the Wasp)

In the latter half of the 20th century, there was a controversial episode of The Sooty Show wherein Sooty and Sweep drank ginger beer. (PROSE: It's Raining Gin [+]Jon Arnold, The Curse of Fanfic! (The Curse of Fanfic!, Obverse Books, 2020). Page 137.)

The Seventh Doctor drank ginger beer while at The Shepherd's Cross in 1968. (PROSE: Nightshade)

In the 1980s, the Fourth Doctor drank ginger pop after arriving on a facsimile of Earth. He offered some to Sarah Jane Smith, but she disliked it. Later, he offered the beverage to Sarah's android double, who drank it without question. This was one of the ways in which the Doctor was able to discern that this was a fake Sarah, and indeed a fake Earth. (TV: The Android Invasion)

The Fourth Doctor would later state that 1997 was a "bad year" for ginger beer. (PROSE: System Shock)

Despite ginger pop having an adverse effect on Time Lord metabolism, (AUDIO: The Kingmaker) the Fifth Doctor still consciously ordered ginger beer at the Green Dragon in 2009. (AUDIO: The Eternal Summer)

When the Fifth Doctor again ordered ginger pop in the Green Dragon, (AUDIO: Plague of the Daleks) as he had previously done so in 2009, (AUDIO: The Eternal Summer) in the 45th century, he stated that his drink had been long flat. (AUDIO: Plague of the Daleks)

By the 26th century, ginger beer had become expensive, due to its rarity. (PROSE: Prisoner of the Daleks)

Undated events[]

William Shakespeare got the Fifth Doctor drunk on ginger beer-spiked drink and effectively stole the TARDIS as a consequence. The Doctor later explained that "ginger pop [had] a profoundly deleterious effect on Time Lord metabolism". (AUDIO: The Kingmaker)

Charlotte Pollard once spilled ginger pop on the TARDIS console, making the Eighth Doctor's TARDIS's destination monitor "stick" on occasion. (AUDIO: The Mummy Speaks!)
