Commander Hallanoberen (Hallan for short) was a Time Lord and a Commander of the Chancellery Guard.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Hallanoberen, better known as Hallan, belonged to the House of Artronides. (AUDIO: Warfare) As a Commander of the Chancellery Guard, he served as personal bodyguard to several Presidents and visited Davidia forty-one times when they required rest. He met Maya Melyin on the latest of these visits. (AUDIO: Spirit)

Romana's Presidency[]

At some point, Hallan informed Cardinal Braxiatel that Inquisitor Darkel wished to speak with him. (AUDIO: Professor Bernice Summerfield and the Crystal of Cantus)

Hallan accompanied President Romana and Leela to Davidia, ten years local time after his previous visit. He was unhappy when Romana and Leela went into the wildlands without him there to protect them and was the subject of Melyin's romantic attentions, admitting that he was curious of what it would be like to kiss an ephemeral. He had the broken man taken to the infirmary by Captain Kosh and eventually kissed Melyin, later rejecting her and earning a punch from Leela. (AUDIO: Spirit)

Hallan helped transport the broken man to the Capitol and put him in a stasis vessel on Narvin's orders before taking him to Containment. (AUDIO: Pandora)

When a bomb started its detonation in the scaphe port as off-world students were gathered there, Hallan ordered the bulkheads closed to limit the damage that it would cause, resulting in the deaths of many students as well as K9 Mark I. Romana told him that he would be brought before the High Council for doing so and commanded him to ensure the safety of the surviving students and to raise the transduction barrier. He sided with Darkel until she was no longer in a position of power, switching to supporting Romana. He arrested Darkel, Pandora and the Cardinals, but he was hit by a staser before they could be incarcerated. (AUDIO: Imperiatrix)

Civil War[]

Firmly on Romana's side, Hallan fought during the attack on the Maelstrom Cloisters and ensured that Lord Matthias was taken to safety. He accompanied Romana to the Anomaly Vault to retrieve Wynter's TARDIS and fought Aesino, later escaping with Romana, Leela and Narvin to the Gallifreyan Academy where they set up a new base of operations. (AUDIO: Fractures)

Hallan had a barricade built around the Academy and, with Leela and some of his guards, ambushed Darkel and was knocked unconscious, but Leela and Captain Annos were able to save him and bring him within the boundary of Narvin's partition. Believing that he was meeting Elbon, he met with Matthias and received a disk containing Imperiatrix codes, which he checked using Medic Delta. He became infected with a technological variant of the Dogma Virus and, whilst he was ready to burn himself to death, he put himself into stasis until a cure could be found on Narvin's suggestion. (AUDIO: Warfare)

Fate[]

Romana took Elbon to see Hallan in his stasis chamber and told him the story of his infection and the effects that the virus would have on the Time Lords. (AUDIO: Panacea) Eventually, Romana was able to restore the Time Lords using the Biodata Archive, although they lost months of their memories. (AUDIO: Ascension)

Personality[]

Hallan was conservative and disapproved of many of Romana's reforms, (AUDIO: Spirit) leading him to ally himself with Darkel. However, once Darkel fell from power he became loyal to Romana despite their differing beliefs. (AUDIO: Imperiatrix) Ultimately, he was prepared to risk himself to check Matthias' disk before giving it to his President and was ready to kill himself to save Gallifrey. (AUDIO: Warfare)

Behind the scenes[]

Although the full name "Hallanoberen" comes from the Big Finish Productions audio story Warfare, its actual spelling is pure conjecture.
