Thomas Hector Schofield, known more often as Hex was a staff nurse working for St. Gart's Hospital in London in the year 2021. He appears to have missed out on History in Year Two, as he doesn't know what VE day is (BFA: Forty-Five). He also is good at making tea, and doesn't like basements. He first met the Doctor and Ace when they were investigating signs of alien activity at St. Gart's. When Hex witnessed her going into a police box and demanded to know what was going on, Ace let him inside the TARDIS, shocking him outside of his limits. He assisted the Doctor and Ace in their investigation of 'xeno-tech' (alien technology), which was in fact Cyber Technology which had been reversed engineered. (BFA: The Harvest). After aiding the Doctor and Ace, Ace convinced the Doctor that Hex should join them on their travels.

Hex has faced particular hardships, in particular at Drogheda during the siege of 1649. (BFA: The Settling) Then once more being tortured and (an attempt at) brain washing during the First World War at the hands of an operative of The Forge. (BFA: No Man's Land)

The Doctor would later come to realize that Hex was the same Thomas Schofield he knew as "Little Tommy," the son of Cassie Schofield. (who appeared in BFA: Project: Twilight and BFA: Project: Lazarus)
