Opening narration box

The Doctor and Rose try to find Hyperstar Cal MacNannovich

Summary

The Doctor and Rose arrive on the Hyperfilm Studio set of the Great Director, Zemm Foolini, on the planet Woldyhool, in the year Five Billion. Zemm is not happy. His monster shoot has been interrupted and his leading manbot, Cal "Spark Plug" MacNannovich, has gone missing. To make things worse, the monster (a Banjunx from the Isop Galaxy) isn't as well-behaved an actor as his agent promised. It goes on a rampage, eating all of the extras and the security forces.

Recognising its species and sensing that something is not right, the Doctor pacifies the creature with bright studio lights and a shadow puppet show. Recognising it as a baby, prone to shoving things in its mouth, the Doctor waits for the extras and security forces to be sicked up unharmed. The adult Banjunx, the real monster actor, turns up, looking for his little boy! With events settled, the Doctor and Rose leave to find out what has happened to another survivor from Platform One.

Notes

  • Supporting the series of collectible Doctor Who trading cards, the magazine carried a regular four page, individually titled comic strip of the Tenth Doctor's adventures.
  • The artwork and colours were bold and bright, reflecting the tone of the magazine and, as did Doctor Who Adventures, reflected the appeal to readers younger than those catered to by Doctor Who Magazine.
  • The Battles in Time comic strip often sought to reinforce the association of its Doctor with the one seen on screen by using "props" from the TV series: blue/brown suit, intelligent-looking glasses, sonic screwdriver and psychic paper. Apart from the brown suit, none appeared in this strip.
