James Lethbridge-Stewart
The Forgotten Son James
Species: Human
Grandparents: Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, James Gore
Mother: Mary Gore
Father: Gordon Conall Lethbridge-Stewart
Brother: Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart

Gordon James Lethbridge-Stewart was the son of Gordon Conall Lethbridge-Stewart and Mary Gore and elder brother of Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. He was born in 1925 and named after his maternal grandfather, James Gore. He died in 1938, after being haunted by a being called Maha. Years later, in 1969, it was revealed by the ghost "Gordon" that James carried an immortal soul that would one day be reincarnated into a man called Mahasamatman, who would go on to ascend into the being that became the Great Intelligence. James' soul was reincarnated in 1951 as Owain Vine. (PROSE: The Forgotten Son)

On the Inferno Earth it was young Alistair who died in 1938, after accidentally falling down Golitha Falls. In that reality James never met Maha, and went on to become a major in the Coldstream Guards. In 1959 he met a man who he came to learn was his dead brother from a parallel future Earth, Colonel Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart. James travelled to a middle-reality in the 1940s with the colonel and there met another version of his brother, Alastair. He was instrumental in saving Alastair, transporting him to the Inferno Earth where he met their father Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, Director of External Security. (PROSE: The Schizoid Earth)

This alternative version of James was later seen to have crossed realities, arriving on the normal Earth in 1959 (ten years had passed for him, so in on the Inferno Earth it as 1969), and was still there some fifteen years later, by which point he went by the name James Gore (his maternal grandfather's name). By this point he had fallen from grace, after working for the British Government in some capacity, and there is an allusion to some enmity between him and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart during the previous four years. While events occur at the Inferno Project, he is haunted by memories of the Inferno Earth, and can hear it screaming. He gets a vision of Brigade Leader Alastair Lethbridge-Stewart and contacts the Brigadier. Lethbridge-Stewart agrees to take him to the now-closed Inferno Project, where James confronts an echo of the Brigade Leader, who shoots him. James dies in Lethbridge-Stewart's arms. (PROSE: Ashes of the Inferno, TV: Inferno)
