Joan Redfern was a science teacher at Hulton College, near Farringham in Norfolk. She was widowed when her husband, Arthur Redfern, died in war. She gave her cat Wolsey to Bernice Summerfield following her encounter with the Seventh Doctor. (PROSE: Human Nature)
