John Friedlander was credited under the title "Masks" on a couple of early 1970s Doctor Who stories, including Frontier in Space and Death to the Daleks. He was the first person on the programme to get a credit in what would later be considered the discipline of prosthetics. He was a credited visual effects designer on The Ark in Space and The Sontaran Experiment. On Genesis of the Daleks, he received the special credit of "Davros' mask", laying down the basic design of that character which would survive into the BBC Wales era.
Outside Doctor Who, he worked on I, Claudius, starring Derek Jacobi and Jackanory with Trevor Martin.
