Jonathan Pryce (born 1st June 1947) played the 17th Master (non-canon) in The Curse of Fatal Death. He reportedly auditioned for the role of the Eighth Doctor in the 1996 TV Movie, and he was in the final ten, but was turned down in favour of Paul McGann.
Among his various film roles: villain Eliot Carver in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, Governor Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Mr. Dark in Something Wicked This Way Comes, and Sam Lowry in Brazil.
