Katherine "Kathy" Nightingale was the sister of Larry Nightingale and a friend of Sally Sparrow. In 2007, she went with Sally to visit Wester Drumlins, where she was sent back in time to 5th December 1920 by one of the Weeping Angels. Stranded there, she started a new life, marrying Ben Wainwright and having a daughter, also named Sally.

In 1969, the Doctor, working from information given to him by Sally Sparrow, contacts Kathy and enlists her help in sending a message to Sally in 2007, although it would be another 18 years before she is able to do so.

She died in 1987, shortly after writing a letter that her grandson, Malcolm Wainwright, promised to deliver to Sally Sparrow in 2007, per the Doctor's instructions. When viewing her tombstone years later, Sally calculated that Kathy took advantage of her new life to shave a few years off her age.

The Weeping Angel consumed the potential energy from the time Kathy Nightingale would have spent in the present. (DW: Blink)
