Kylie Minogue is a singer and actress. She played Astrid Peth in the Doctor Who story Voyage of the Damned.

Biography

Minogue was born in 1968, and is an Australian singer and actress. Her initial taste of fame came from the Australian soap opera, Neighbours — a hit throughout large swaths of the English-speaking world. Minogue parlayed this fame into an even more successful musical career, although she still continued to make occasional acting appearances. Minogue has achieved seven UK no.1 singles and thirty-four UK top 10 singles. After her eleventh studio album Aphrodite went no.1 in July 2010, she became the first artist to have no.1 albums in four consecutive decades. She has had five UK no.1 albums. In 2005, Minogue was diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer. After a year in remission, Minogue joined her sister Dannii Minogue on stage at G-A-Y and soon resumed her Showgirl tour.

Minogue's performing career dates back to the mid-1980s when she rose to popularity as an actress on Australian TV. She scaled back her film and TV appearances after launching her successful music career in the late 1980s, but has appeared in several films including Moulin Rouge and Bio-Dome.

Minogue has sold over a hundred million records worldwide, and is a global superstar.

Doctor Who

Kylie Minogue co-starred in Voyage of the Damned, which aired on Christmas Day 2007 and in which she plays the tenth incarnation's temporary companion Astrid Peth. This makes her one of the few individuals to appear in the series after having been directly referenced by the show (in The Idiot's Lantern). The announcement of her casting in the special came shortly after her return to performance after her battle with breast cancer.

Minogue has been photographed with a copy of the BBC Eighth Doctor Adventures novel Camera Obscura. This, plus her use of Cyberman imagery in her stage show, have led to Doctor Who fans to speculate that she enjoys the series. She has recently stated in an interview that they are correct and she is indeed a fan [1]

Minogue was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Prince Charles only a couple of days before archived footage of her Doctor Who character, Astrid, made an appearance in Journey's End.
