Professor Laird was a scientist attached to the Bomb Disposal Squad of the British Army in 1984.
While the rest of the soldiers in the squad were captured and replaced by Dalek duplicates, she helped Tegan Jovanka escape the warehouse where they were situated. However, in the struggle to escape, Laird was shot and killed by one of the duplicate soldiers. (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks)
