In 1000, the province was the site of a major revolt against the rule of King Sitric Silkbeard of Dublin, which was instigated by his great rival King Brian Boru of Munster. Sitric's power was severely diminished as a result. A second revolt at some point after 1006 further weakened the King of Dublin's power-base. (AUDIO: The Book of Kells)
