Magda's Mysteries was a small bookshop run by Magda which was located in the corner of the Darlington indoor market. It could be accessed from both the interior and the exterior of the market. At the back of the store there was a hidden elevator which led to the Darlington MIAOW base. (PROSE: The Dreadful Flap et al)

The store specialised in imported US paperbacks of paranormal mystery, gothic, and science fiction genres, (PROSE: Enter Wildthyme) but Iris Wildthyme thought it was a store for second-hand books. (PROSE: Tik, Tak. Snick, Snack)

Terry Kelly frequently visited Magda's Mysteries in the 1980s. (PROSE: Wildthyme Beyond!)

In December 2008, Magda put a dozen copies of Noel Coward's Collected Quips in the front window of the store. (PROSE: The Dreadful Flap)

David Taylor was a frequent customer of Magda's Mysteries, and he and Lawrence visited it together sometime in Autumn 2013. (AUDIO: Imaginary Boys)

Iris Wildthyme and Panda visited a copy of Magda's Mysteries in a copy of Darlington on Tevan Two. (PROSE: Tik, Tak. Snick, Snack)

Behind the scenes[]

On Paul Magrs' original blog on the website set up for him by Stuart Douglas, Magrs mentioned that he remembered an old "remainer shop" that used to exist in Darlington, which specialised in which sold imported American novels such as Ace Fantasy[1]- it is likely that Magda's Mysteries was at least inspired by this bookshop.
