Maria Chavez was a cleaner employed at the New York City offices of the Butler Institute. She was originally from Los Angeles, but left for New York when her friend Jerome was killed. On the night she found the Seventh Doctor attempting to hack into the Institute's computer system, she first hid him from security guards Lewis Christian and Mulwray, then helped him find the information he needed. However, when she asked him to take her with him, he refused, as she had known what the Institute's plans were and yet did nothing. She returned home where she succumbed to the cancer she had been fighting for years and which had been brought on by repeated exposure to toxic cleaning fluids. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Warhead)
