Miles Engado was the Coordinator of Project Eden, a scientific venture in the Lucifer system, from 2152 to its destruction in 2157. He was born in 2070. His father taught him the Tewa Native American traditions, even though that tribe was long dead. (PROSE: Lucifer Rising) In 2147, he took his eight year old daughter Paula to Ozette after the death of his father. (PROSE: Prelude Lucifer Rising) His wife, Beruna, had been cheating on him and passed away the following year.

The Project was located on Lucifer's moons, Belial and Moloch, and its goal was to find high-mass elements for Earth and communicate with the Angels, lifeforms on the planet below. Paula, now eighteen, joined him on the Project Eden crew, as did Piper O'Rourke, who unbeknownst to him was a spy for the Interplanetary Mining Corporation. She infected the Project's neural net with a virus that sent information to IMC.

In 2157, the Seventh Doctor, Ace, and Bernice arrived on Belial. Shortly afterwards, IMC's virus corrupted the starsuits' programming, killing Paula on a journey down to Lucifer. Miles was devastated, and Bishop, an Adjudicator, arrived to investigate her death.

After the dissolution of Earth Central, IMC bought the mining rights for the system, and sent a fleet to claim its resources. They set up eight black holes to suck away the planet's atmosphere, but they were stopped by the Angels. Miles and eight other crew members managed to leave the system before the Angels set up an exclusion zone around it.

Miles and Piper returned to Earth together, just one year before the 22nd century Dalek invasion. (PROSE: Lucifer Rising)
