Monastery

A monastery was a building or complex of buildings that housed monastics, whether monks or nuns.

In 1006, the Eighth Doctor and Tamsin Drew visited a monastery, the Abbey of Kells, in Ireland. The Monk (going by the name Brother Thelonious) was the abbot there. (AUDIO: The Book of Kells)

In 1066, the First Monk used an abandoned monastery near a Northumbrian village as his base. (TV: The Time Meddler)

Also in the 11th century, a monastery was established on the site of what would later become Forgill Castle. By the late 20th century, monastic records were still kept in the castle's library. (TV: Terror of the Zygons)
