Northumberland was an English county with a North Sea coast.

Vikings invaded twice on their way down from Scandinavia. Circa 1066, the renegade Time Lord known as The Monk lit a beacon so that the Viking longships would dock and not be able to take part in the battle of Hastings. That plan failed as it was foiled by the Doctor (DW: The Time Meddler)

The Vikings also buried a flask containing Fenric in the town of Maiden's Point. The Haemovore known as the Ancient One followed them, and over generations would transform several people into Haemovores. (DW: The Curse of Fenric)

During 1943 in the latter part of World War II, Fenric was released via ULTIMA, an early computer installed at Maiden's Point. the Doctor fought back both Fenric and the Haemovores. (DW: The Curse of Fenric)

C19 later had a Vault there where it stored alien artifacts. This was run by a man named Martyn Townsend. (MA: The Scales of Injustice)
