Nova was a Doctor Who Adventures comic strip published in 2013.

Summary[]

The Raxels' desire for the perfect tan leaves dead planets in its wake but the Doctor has Clara to help work out a solution.

Plot[]

The Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald arrive at a star about to go nova before it explodes but are curious about an alien ship that seems settled right in its path. Arriving on the ship they find the alien-people not at all worried by the impending explosion. In fact the aliens are all relaxing! The aliens are Raxel – a cold-blooded species that love nothing more than to sunbathe and improve their tan. The Doctor is horrified to learn that they are travelling around the galaxy force feeding stars to generate the perfect tan. The stars can only survive the burst of power for a few hours before turning nova. The loss of a star leaves all the planets that rely on its light barren and eventually they will die unable to sustain any life of their own.

The Doctor decides this must stop and, making their way to the vortex generator, they are about to switch the machine off when they are stopped by ships guards and taken to the ship's captain. The captain seems blind to the Doctor's argument about the loss of life for the sake of a tan but the ship's captain is adamant the penalty for interference is death. Fortunately Clara has a solution – in her shoulder bag. The nova machine is switched off when Clara manages to persuade the Captain that "fake tan" is a girl's best friend and that fashion is all about how something looks – no one cares if it's real or not. The Doctor puts Clara's solution all down to her "sunny personality".
