Paul Langer was the ex-husband of Carla Langer, and father to Sarah Jane Smith's young friend and ally Clyde.

Paul and Carla fell out of love when Clyde was younger, and Paul ran off with her sister Melba. He came to live in Germany. Paul ran again, returning to Clyde's life, when Melba became pregnant. Clyde showed him the attic in Sarah Jane's home and explained to him that in his free time, he helped to save the world. Paul then stole a Berserker Pendant which he used for mind control.
