Two versions of Ray Morita (nicknamed "Cosmic Ray") were encountered by the Seventh Doctor and Ace. Both were third generation 21st century Japanese-Americans.
In the Doctor's universe, he was a brilliant particle physicist. He was right-handed. He developed a mathematical formula which would allow dimensional travel. Lady Silk and Imperial Lee gave him the crucial missing element, which was desire. Morita was a fan of Duke Ellington, so he used his formula to travel to a parallel universe where Ellington was able to record his music during the entire 1940s. He took Lady Silk and Imperial Lee with him to that time period on an alternate Earth.
In the universe where they went, Ray Morita was a school teacher and mediocre physicist, as well as being left-handed. (PROSE: Atom Bomb Blues)
