The Reichsinspektor General was Adolf Hitler's personal investigator in an alternate timeline. He had the authority to go anywhere, see anyone, and do anything, with no questions asked. In 1951, the Reichsinspektor General was stabbed by Popplewell at the Festival of Britain. The assassination was witnessed by the Seventh Doctor and Ace, who tried to rescue him, but the dying man instead gave the Doctor his documents, then fell into the river. The Doctor used the badge found in the documents to convince the Britischer Freikorps that he was the Reichsinspektor General, thus getting the help he needed to get back the TARDIS and find out when the timeline had changed. The deception was revealed when the real Reichsinspektor General's body was retrieved from the river, along with his proper identification. (PROSE: Timewyrm: Exodus)

On Gallifrey, the Doctor used the Reichsinspektor General badge to get the Chancellery Guard to take Tom Dekker to the Chief Hospitaller. (PROSE: Blood Harvest)
