The revolution of the Ood was a battle during the Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire which resulted in the abolition of slavery in the Empire. (TV: Planet of the Ood)

History[]

Origins[]

Throughout the two hundred years of slavery of the Ood, the Friends of the Ood had fought for the race's freedom. Yet, thanks to the manipulation of the Ood's physiology and the capture of the Ood Brain, the Ood appeared to enjoy their slavery and the Friends were considered strange in their views.

Some members of the Friends of the Ood infiltrated the ranks of Ood Operations and sabotaged the enslavement facility. The telepathic damping field around the Ood Brain was lowered and the Brain's subconscious slowly infiltrated the Ood on the Ood Sphere in the form of what the humans considered a disease they called "red-eye". This made the Ood violent and anti-human and resulted in the death of three members of staff. (TV: Planet of the Ood)

Beginnings[]

Deciding they had an infected batch, Ood Operations security staff shot one of the Ood who had entered a rabid state and rounded up the rest of the batch for execution by gas. Meanwhile the Red eye spread to the Ood in the hospitality suite. They killed many of the company representatives but several escaped. Solana Mercurio escaped the slaughter and ordered the guards to shoot all the Ood. She was killed shortly after this. Another group of red-eyed Ood entered the area where the Ood were contained, rescued the Ood and replaced them with the security staff who were detaining them. The security staff, removed from their gas masks, died. (TV: Planet of the Ood)

The battle[]

Red-eye soon spread through all of the Ood on their homeworld and they escaped from the containers in which they were to be shipped offworld. Meeting the security staff, they attacked them. Although only armed with the electric fields from their translation spheres, the sheer number of Ood managed to overwhelm the humans even though the latter were armed with long-range guns.

The battle raged around the facility as, in Warehouse 15, where the Ood Brain was being kept. The infiltrator from the Friends of the Ood was tossed by Halpen into the Ood Brain, which consumed him. Sigma, the only Ood not participating in the battle, helped the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble deactivate the detonators primed to kill the Ood Brain after Halpen was converted into an Ood, thanks to chemicals that Sigma had placed in his drinks for the past few years. As the Ood Brain was released from its containment field, the Ood stopped fighting the humans, who stopped in wonder at the Ood's freed telepathic song. (TV: Planet of the Ood)

Aftermath[]

The Ood's song was heard through the three galaxies of the Empire and people realised that the Ood were people too and set them free. Ood slavery was abolished and the Ood were allowed to live on the Ood Sphere in peace. (TV: Planet of the Ood) During the Planetary Relocation Incident, the Doctor remembered the Ood's reference to the DoctorDonna, which Donna had become, understanding that they had seen it coming. (TV: Planet of the Ood) Within 100 years, they had set up their first city which was visited by the Tenth Doctor. There, the Ood Elder warned him of the return of the Saxon Master and the Final Sanction. (TV: The End of Time)
