Robert Scott

In 1910, Captain Robert Scott travelled from Cardiff to the Antarctic. He took two years to get there and died shortly after. A statue was erected in his honour. (TV: To the Last Man)

After seeing a copy of The Manchester Guardian from 6 November 1912, a week in their personal future, Daniel and Nan commented that there was still no word of Captain Scott's fate. They correctly assumed that he died in the Antarctic.

News reached England that he was dead in February 1913. (AUDIO: The Fog)

The Eighth Doctor's companion Molly O'Sullivan compared the crew of the cryo-ship Orpheus to Scott. (AUDIO: Time's Horizon)

Behind the scenes

Though Scott's first name was not given by To the Last Man, the scene doesn't parse correctly unless it's assumed to be Captain Robert Scott, the famous real world Antarctic explorer.
